To solve my power problems, why don't I just mate a pair of volvo T3s running on wastegate pressure up to my 305 by getting a friend to weld v-bands onto a set of shorty headers, and piping the compressed air into the carb, where the atomized fuel cools the charge, and run the whole thing on 91 octane?

it will be fun, till you blow it all up. Could probably rig something up like a Maserati BiTurbo to blow through the carbs.

What would you suggest for adding power without breaking the bank. A set of headers, true duals, an intake manifold, and a good carb-and-ignition tune?

that isnt going to get you much. You'll feel it a little bit though. I would take Travis's advice and find a 350 for it. Cheap as all get out, the last SBC I had to pick up was $200, and just bolt on to it.

As 505 said, an airbox works (not so easy to run linkage through) or some of the dragrace carb builders have made blowthrough Holley carbs with better throttleshaft seals and float bowl pressurization to run without an airbox.

Okay, man.

The junkyard turbo build can be alluring, but it's not as simple as your post makes it sound. Especially if you need it to be reliable. It's been mentioned, but honestly a motor swap is probably the cheapest and easiest bet for you.
